Oliver Reginald “O.R.” Tambo, one of South Africa’s national heroes and icons, was the longest serving President of the African National Congress. An anti-apartheid politician and central figure to the liberation of South Africa, O.R. led the resistance against Apartheid South Africa from exile, establishing ANC missions in 27 countries, including in Egypt, Ghana, Morocco and London. O.R. united all anti-apartheid forces behind the vision of the ANC. His leadership skills and vision was the cohesive force that held the ANC together for three decades. His work in developing the Harare Declaration and ensuring its adoption by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and the UN ensured that the ANC was at the centre of whatever settlement would emerge around South Africa.

The inaugural O.R. Tambo Golf Invitational aims to celebrate Oliver Tambo the man, the golfer, and
his dedication to a value driven democracy. We look forward to bringing together South Africa’s friends from the international community, business fraternity, politics, as well as sports and entertainment.
